Malta vs. Norway - Euro 2016 Preview

Malta vs. Norway

As far as their last six matches are concerned, Malta have never won against Norway. They may have engaged in a deadlock once but the overwhelming majority of their meetings have been largely dominated by Norway.

Malta vs. Norway
Match Date: 10 October 2014 (local time)
Venue: Ta'Qali National Stadium (Ta'Qali)

Malta

Malta stretched their winless streak to a fourth consecutive match following the 2-0 thrashing they incurred from Croatia at the opening matches of the Euro 2016 qualifications. This has obviously made them one of the least challenging sides of the continental tilt. Their possession is missing in adequate strength while their attack is simply not enough to outclass their opponents’. Defense-wise, however, the team must receive some credits for the relatively good job they delivered in the brawl. “It was a good start for us. We had the first chance and then Croatia took the possession as expected,” expressed Maltese defender André Agius. “We had things under control, but then we were down to ten players and after that it was harder and harder.”

Norway

Norway had a frustrating debut in the Group stage of the Euro 2016 qualifications as they conceded two goals and scored none against Croatia. This counts as their seventh consecutive, non-winning result since their brawl with Moldova in January. The loss, however, was expected and quite tolerable as they faced one of the world’s most dangerous sides in football, Italy. “We tried hard. We lost to a better team today,” explained Norwegian forward Joshua King. “In the first half, I had a chance that went into the side-netting. I tried to swing my foot around the ball, but I just didn’t get through it. As soon as they scored a goal, their defenders just went back and defended very well.”
